Nothin But The Music’s Best of 2017 Playlist
Our friends at Nothin But The Music kick off their monthly playlists for Planet Slop with a round-up of their favourite tracks of the year.
I’m not going to lie – running a site like Planet Slop is a lot of fun.
I’m not rubbing it in. It just is. You get to go to loads of gigs, you get to meet some of your heroes, you get to talk endlessly about the things you’re interested in, even when nobody cares. It’s brilliant.
But, there is a danger that you can get in a rut in terms of output. If you are only really covering the stuff you’re personally into, then you are only catering for a very small audience. Namely, yourself.
So we began looking for people who could shake things up, give us something fresh and exciting, both for the site and our own, jaded ears.
Then our good friends at Nothin But The Music offered to send us a playlist of their favourite tunes that they have been listening to each month.
It was an offer we couldn’t refuse. The pedigree of NBTM is undeniable, promoting both some of the biggest events and some of the brightest stars in the city, from XamVolo, to Sub Blue and beyond.
Since we’re at the end of the year, we figured we would ask them for their favourite songs of 2017 to kick it all off, and we are so glad we did.
There are local heroes such as Astles, XamVolo and The Vryll Society, hip hop superstars like Kendrick Lamar and Migos, indie from Alt-J and The xx, electronica from Bicep and Full Crate, grime from Stormzy, pop from Jessie Ware. It is exactly as eclectic and surprising and we hoped it would be.
So, without further ado, Nothin But The Music’s Best of 2017 Playlist.
