Africa Oye x Kitchen Street- Extra Soul Perception
Jazz and soul musicians from UK, Kenya and Uganda team up for Liverpool show.
24 Feb 2020 @ 23:00pm
Africa Oyé and 24 Kitchen Street will present the Liverpool debut of Extra Soul Perception on 24th February; a collaborative project exploring new tangents in soul music with eight innovative artists.
In November 2019, the artists from Kenya, Uganda and the UK spent a week in Nairobi together making an album at Supersonic Africa.
The result was a spread of music that reflected the range of backgrounds, interests and skills in the group; from acapella harmonies, soft spoken word, transcendental gqom, razor sharp swahili rap, bumping broken beat and beguiling R&B.
In February 2020, all eight return to the UK to showcase this new music across a three date tour in Liverpool, London and Manchester.
Extra Soul Perception is made up of Maxwell Owin (UK), Lynda Dawn (UK), Lex Amor (UK), Labdi (Ke), Karun (Ke), K15 (UK), Hibotep (Ug) and Faizal Mostrixx (Ug).
Led by an open-minded approach to harmonising different sounds, techniques and traditions, ESP. celebrates commonality across borders in the hope of changing perceptions of a long-established genre.
Extra Soul Perception play 24 Kitchen Street in Liverpool on Monday 24th February, 2020. Find out more about the project at extrasoulperception.com.
