Prefects and Mickey Locks have long been working together as members of Liverpool based hip hop collective Chedeye Knights – undoubtedly one of the better group names on the scene.

But they have been working separately for even longer. Between them, they have shared bills with the likes of The Prodigy, Sugarhill Gang, Redman and Method Man.

Given that they form part of the same collective, it shouldn’t be a surprise that they have worked together before, having released the collaborative album Amplified Minds earlier in the year.

This track – Heaviest Ones – will feature on Prefects upcoming solo album (due early next year), but given the vibe of the track, it is no wonder that they have dropped it now.

Opening with synths of a spooky, B movie variety, it is clear what we are in for. The two have an unconventional style . They’re sharp and hard hitting, while also being extremely scouse and very funny.

They bounce off each other briskly, and you get a feeling of camaraderie. It feels just as much like two friends hanging out and having laugh, and you kinda wanna hang out with them.

There is a Halloween-y theme running through. Not just in the spooky synths, but lyrically too – most notably when Prefects, “Approach your lawn and stomp your pumpkin”, which makes it a perfect addition to your Halloween playlist (as it was on ours).

But dig a little deeper, and you might find something more.
