Preview: Sound Women #2
With Sound Women rally up for another shindig at the Sound Basement, Ste Knight takes a look at what is in store
Having seen an incredibly successful sold-out gig for their first outing, the Sound Women posse are back for their second instalment of exciting sound and vision. This writer was at the previous outing and can safely say that it was a brilliant event; the organisation was faultless, the artists who played were totally on-point, and most importantly it pushed the talents of female musicians and female fronted bands in an arena where that really needs to happen.
Oh, and the crowd were pretty mesmerised throughout, which speaks volumes, really.
Sound Women #2 takes place on March 23rd at Sound, which many of you will know as the quirky little beer and pizza place on Liverpool’s Duke Street.
There will be a series of events taking place throughout the day, all of which lead up to the evening’s ents. You can try your hand at dolling-up your drawers, with a knicker-glitzing workshop ran by the Crafty Bitches, or grab yourself some business advice that might just turn your clever little idea into a big deal – who would say no to that?!
The daytime events are for women only so, ladies, get yourself down to Sound early doors, indulge in a few gins (or whatever your favourite tipple may be…) and loosen yourself up for the evening’s shenanigans.
So, to the evening itself.
Organisers have arranged a right treat for you up to now, with two amazing acts confirmed to play.
Headlining the party we will have a performance from none other than the brillaint Foxtrap. For those not in the know, Foxtrap are an electronic band who cite Boards of Canada and Aphex Twin among their influences. Doing well so far? OK well they combine their harmonious melodies and glitched-out electronica with the beautiful vocal delivery of their leading lady, Helen Morrison. Fresh off the back of their brand new album release, this is one definitely NOT to be missed.
Joining Foxtrap will be the also-brilliant LUNA. The Liverpool songstress has been sending waves up and down the Mersey with her stunning electro-pop sound. Those of you out there who are suckers for a touch of FKA-Twigs-meets-Four-Tet-and-Bonobo-on-a-night-out, will revel in LUNA‘s performance. She’ll be bringing a stripped back electronica vibe in place of her usual backing band. A perfect precursor to the headline act, then.
Wanna go? Don’t blame you. You can grab yourself a ticket right here. Make sure you keep abreast of developments via the Sound Women Facebook page as more acts are added to the evening event. This one is gonna be BIG.
