Metal Liverpool Presents Different Trains 1947 At Edge Hill

Different Trains 1947 to premiere in Liverpool before showings in London and India. 

Following on from last years spectacular re-imagining of Steve Reich’s Different Trains, Metal Liverpool will return to Edge Hill train station next week for an open air concert.

Teaming up with Warp Records, Boiler Room, the Barbican, plus Indian partners Wild City and What About Art?, the collective will present Different Trains 1947 as part of 2017 UK/India year of culture celebrations.

Using Steve Reich’s original composition as inspiration Different Trains 1947 is a collaborative work of art produced in response to the events of 1947.

Though the inspiration is clear to see, the performances will comprise of entirely new compositions by Actress (Ninja Tune), Jack Barnett (These New Puritans), Indian music producer Sandunes, percussionist Jivraj Singh and vocalist Priya Purushothaman, with visual elements contributed by filmmakers and artists Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard.

Different Trains 1947 will premiere in Liverpool at Metal, Edge Hill train station, the oldest active passenger railway station in the world, and location of last years screening, on 27th September 2017 before visiting London’s Barbican Hall on 1st October and Magnetic Fields Festival in India on 17th December 2017. Tickets for all three performances are on sale now.

Electronic duo Darkstar (Warp Records) will be providing support at the events that will include a new composition produced alongside Harthill Youth Centre in Wavertree.

This experimental artwork known as Trackbed is currently installed as an interactive sound installation at Edge Hill Station and is free to visit, eventually culminating in a final composition premiering live on 27th September alongside Different Trains 1947.
