On the eve of Positive Vibration’s second festival, Soulfultiz headed to Art of Reggae Exhibition at Constellations.

Positive Vibration – A Festival of Reggae kicks off its second edition tomorrow (Friday 9th June), but the festivities really started last night at the launch of The Art of Reggae Exhibition at Constellations.

The exhibition featured 100 reggae inspired posters from over a thousand entries.  They have been designed by artists and illustrators from across the globe and is presented in conjunction with the International Reggae Poster Contest, which has been running for half a decade.

Each of the pieces will be auctioned off during their stay at Constellations, with profits donated to Alpha Boys School – a vocational institution for underprivileged youths in Kingston, Jamaica.

The exhibition takes place until 9th June, and is free entry.

For the launch party, His Excellency Mr. Seth George Ramocan, the Jamaican High Commissioner for the United Kingdom, spoke to the crowd.

Ramocan said that Reggae music was one of the highest selling genres in the USA, and expressed his disappointment that Jamaica doesn’t embrace Reggae as a commodity. He also joked about how you don’t need fancy dance moves for Reggae – you can literally just walk with the beat!

Also appearing was Scouse-Jamaican poet Levi Tafari, who read out a selection of his work.

Reggae music is still as relevant as ever, and Positive Vibration are proving this, not just with the central festival, but with incredible commissions such as this. That they won Best New Festival at the 2016 Festival Awards is no surprise.

The main festival over the weekend will feature performances from The Selecter, Jah Shaka, Don Letts and many more all over the Baltic Triangle. Tickets for the main festival are still available.
