The festival of reggae returns this weekend!

Positive Vibration 2018 finally takes place this weekend, headed by the legendary have added Lee “Scratch” Perry.

In what is undoubtedly the biggest coup since the festival began, Perry is one of the greatest reggae legends of all time; a producer & innovator and The Godfather of Dub who kickstarted the career of Bob Marley. He will be backed by New York-based collective, Subatomic Sound System for this special one-off UK performance.

As well as the Godfather of Dub, the festival will also play host to the Godfather of Drum ‘n’ Bass, as Roni Size makes his long-awaited return to Liverpool. The Bristol-born DJ & producer, who won the 1997 Mercury Prize for his album New Forms, will be bringing the heat and showing why, even after 20 years, he’s still at the top of his game.

There will also be live performances from the Queen of Lovers Rock, Carroll Thompson, prolific drummer & MC, Horseman and the exceptionally gifted vocalist,King Lorenzo, all of which will be backed by one of the UK’s finest reggae bands,The Upper Cut Band.

Positive Vibration will grace the stages throughout the Baltic Triangle on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th June.

The award winning celebration of reggae music and Jamaican heritage has quickly established itself as one of the UK’s most exciting and eclectic reggae events, playing host to internationally renowned bands, legendary sound systems and selectors, along with some of the brightest new talent in the form.

The festival also sees the return of The Art of Reggae Exhibition – a successful collaboration between Positive Vibration and the International Reggae Poster Contest. The exhibition, which supports the Alpha Boys School in Jamaica, will showcase 100 reggae-inspired posters, designed by illustrators and artists from over 70 countries.

2017’s edition featured a truly exhaustive collection of reggae artists – people who you suspect probably wouldn’t play Liverpool otherwise. It felt like so much of the genre’s history was represented in some way, be that via bands, DJ’s or the artwork on display, and for an extremely reasonable price at that.

By the looks of things, 2018 is shaping up to top even that.

Positive Vibration takes place between Friday 8th and Saturday 9th June. Tickets are available by clicking here.
