Patti Smith confirms summer Manchester show as part of two solo UK dates.
The absolute undeniable legend that is Patti Smith will play a Manchester date as part of a short 2018 UK tour.
One of just two dates revealed so far will see the universally loved songwriter, poet, author and artist play the O2 Apollo in Manchester on Tuesday 5th June 2018.
The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame inductee will also play Brighton on 2nd June before joining Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds at a show in Dublin on 6th June.
Fondly known as the punk poet laureate the news comes as a welcome surprise as although she has been on somewhat of a world tour for the past couple of years, taking in America, Australia and Europe including multiple festival appearances, it will have been almost 2 years since her last UK show which was part of 2016’s British Summer Time run of shows in Hyde Park where she supported Massive Attack and Young Fathers.
A brace of shows at London’s Roundhouse at the end of 2015 being the only other performances, apart from those of an artistic or ‘in conversation with’ nature, between the Hyde Park appearance and her memorable Glastonbury set.
Patti recently released an intriguing new book, Devotion, described as an inspired exploration of the nature of creative invention, continuing a 40 year history of publishing that peaked with the unforgettable and moving Just Kids for which she was awarded the National Book Award in 2010.
Her live show is a irresistible prospect, one that bought us to tears back in 2015 amongst thousands of others captivated by her Worthy Farm performance that included a badass tumble to which she responded “I’m a fucking animal!“. We impure you to not to miss this chance to see a master of so very many arts and disciplines. You never know how long it might be until you get the chance again.
