Official Prince Exhibition Premiering In London

mm
Tue 22 August, 2017

My Name Is Prince will run for 21 nights in the autumn, and Shaun Ponsonby can barely contain his excitement.

London is to host the world premiere of My Name Is Prince, the first ever official exhibition about the iconic musician and superstar.

The event will begin on 27th October at The O2, where Prince famously performed 21 record-breaking, sold out concerts during the summer of 2007. The residency’s record remains unbroken to this day, and to commemorate tit’s tenth anniversary, My Name is Prince will run for exactly 21 days.

Fans visiting the exhibition will have a chance to witness instruments, stage outfits, awards and hand written song lyrics which are all leaving Paisley Park, Prince’s home and studio complex in Minneapolis, for the first time.

Items will include;

*Clothing from the 1984/1985 Purple Rain tour and the 1988/1989 LoveSexy tour, the 1990 film Graffiti Bridge and 2007 O2 residency

*Gibson L65 guitar that Prince used when he made his national television debut on American Bandstand in 1980, and subsequently used on the Prince and Dirty Mind tours

*The orange Cloud guitar made for Prince’s 2007 Super Bowl halftime performance and O2 residency.

*Third-eye sunglasses from 2014

*Diamond studded cane from 2015

*Diamond vest worn during his 2013 V Magazine shoot

*The iconic Raspberry Beret cloud suit from 1985

Prince’s siblings, some who will visit London in October for the opening of the exhibition, said: “Our family is extremely honoured to have this exhibit at the O2, and we know Prince would be as well. He loved to share his work and life with his fans. We know him as a brother who became not only one of the most prolific songwriters of all time, but an entertainer and musician who was unlike any other. It’s only appropriate we share him and these amazing artefacts with the world now that he’s gone.”

Paisley Park’s Director of Archives, Angie Marchese, said: “At Paisley Park, Prince constructed and inhabited a creative reality that was wholly unique, allowing him to fluidly develop music and artistic works spontaneously and without limitation. He envisioned Paisley Park as one day being opened to the public. Through this exhibition, we are expanding his dream to share with a wider audience, and allow visitors to The O2 in London to experience all his greatness through the artefacts direct from his Paisley Park Archives.”

This is a rare opportunity for fans, and one which will excite Purple People all over the country.

My Name Is Prince opens at London’s O2 Arena on Friday 27th October. Tickets are onsale from Friday 25th August at 9am.
