The acclaimed jazz saxophonist makes his Liverpool this week, Shaun Ponsonby reports.

Acclaimed jazz saxophonist Kamasi Washington is coming to Liverpool this week for a massive show at the Arts Club.

Having played alongside Run The Jewels, labelmate Thundercat and most notably on Kendrick Lamar‘s To Pimp a Butterfly, Washington released his groundbreaking solo album The Epic in 2015. The album was a 172-minute, triple-disc masterpiece, featuring Washington‘s incredible ten-piece band The Next Step, along with a full string orchestra and choir.

Washington’s success is probably the greatest example of jazz’s return to popular prominence, with the likes of Esperanza Spalding and the aforementioned Thundercat, not to mention the likes of Kendrick Lamar and Anderson .Paak weaving jazz fusion elements so predominantly into their music.

His live shows are equally acclaimed, transcendent experiences, and with only two UK dates announced (the other being n Leeds), it looks like live appearances might be a rarity in 2017.

Missing this would be wrong.
