Download Festival calls upon the reunited G’n’R to headline in 2018.
Over the past week the three main headliners for Download Festival 2018 have been revealed in staggered fashion.
First up the news that Ozzy Osbourne would bring his Farewell Tour to Donington Park ahead of his official live retirement in what will surprisingly be his first ever solo performance at the festival and most certainly his last.
That announcement was followed with the unveiling of Avenged Sevenfold as Friday night headliners. Now in their 18th year and Download veterans in their own right this will be their second headline performance having previously kicked things off on the Friday night of the 2014 edition.
Finally today Guns N’ Roses have joined the party, taking the coveted Saturday night slot. Having swept their issues under the rug last year the famous G’n’R trio of Axl, Slash and Duff were reunited for a world tour and it was only a matter of time before the allure of Download beckoned them back to the site where in 2006 riots erupted much due to Axl Rose’s poor timekeeping. We envision no such disappointment this time with the original(ish) line up back where they belong.
Of all three acts Download Festival’s promoter Andy Copping said: “It’s great to have this iconic line up of Guns N’ Roses headlining at Download. I am sure I am not alone when I say I have been wanting this to happen for years. It will be an incredible show and will be one of the highlights of the Download weekend!”
“A real career highlight of mine was giving Avenged Sevenfold their first UK festival headline slot, and I’m thrilled to welcome them back. You don’t often see bands like Avenged Sevenfold top the charts but, much like seeing them live, they’re not to be underestimated.”
“We’re unbelievably excited to have Ozzy as one of the headliners next year. After Black Sabbath closed the festival in 2016, how could I not ask The Prince of Darkness to come back all on his own? The Download family are without a shadow of a doubt, in for a treat.”
Download Festival takes place between the 8th – 10th June 2018, tickets are on sale now from here.
