Dizzee Rascal is launching his Raskit Tour in Liverpool next week, and we at Planet Slop are going bonkers.
Hot off the heels of his acclaimed new album Raskit, Dizzee Rascal is returning to Liverpool next week to kick off his UK tour.
Despite being one of the Godfathers of Grime, and despite the style coming back in a big way, Dizzee’s new album isn’t a pure return to his Grime roots.
“The idea of trying to be my 17 year old self again just because everyone thinks grime’s landed in their lap this week didn’t satisfy me”, Dizzee explains. “I wanted to use what I’ve learned to make the best rap album I could, with no hands in the air moments, just using as much English slang as I could over the best beats I could find”.
Indeed, Dizzee’s sixth album and first in four years, returns the compliment of superstar Drake’s Grime-flavoured mixtape More Life.
It teams precision-tooled beats from an array of US producers with Dizzee’s already established style. In his own words, Dizzee is “rapping my arse off” on the record, and this will no doubt be reflected in the live show when it hits Liverpool next week.
It proves that Dizzee Rascal is an artist in the truest form. It would be easy for him to rest on his Grime laurels with the genre’s commercial re-emergence. Instead he has forged a new sound with what he has already built.
Dizzee Rascal kicks off his Raskit UK tour at the O2 Academy Liverpool on Monday 2nd October.
