As Bat Sabbath head to the Arts Club, Brian Sayle gears up for a heavy night in homage to the Godfathers of Metal.
This week will see the UK return of Bat Sabbath.
But who are Bat Sabbath?
For the uninitiated, Bat Sabbath is a project from the four piece Canadian metal band Cancer Bats. The band formed in 2004 and have released five full studio albums, the most recent being 2015’s Searching For Zero.
In 2011, starting at Sonisphere, they played a number of shows under the moniker Bat Sabbath, a tribute to the Godfathers of metal, Black Sabbath. This has proved to be an on-off project for the group, and no doubt a way to merely go on the road and have some fun.
They come to the Arts Club on Friday 16th June to play a full Sabbath set, and maybe even throw in a few of their own songs in as an encore.
They last played Liverpool back in 2013, when they packed out the Shipping Forecast with The Bendal Interlude. This time around, support will come from Wolverhampton duo God Damn.
But the questions remain; Will they do War Pigs justice? Will they stick to Ozzy, or will Dio get a look-in too? Will they be able to play anything from Technical Ecstasy with a straight face?
We’ll just have to wait and see.
