The urban scene in the North West often goes under-represented, so we asked L100’s DJ 2Kind to write a regular column celebrating the urban underground – starting with C-Two.
The name C-Two has been ever present on the Liverpool Grime Scene since 2008 – that’s almost a decade. This fact isn’t particularly startling in itself, but consider the fact that he is yet to reach the age of 21 and it becomes pretty astonishing.
When it comes to versatility, C-Two has shown how persistence and perseverance will reap the rewards in the long run. He has already found himself supporting Hip Hop legends such as Mobb Deep and Method Man, and even took part in a Grime Bar Session on BBC Radio 1Xtra with DJ Target.
His most recent release is Desire, a dancehall inspired track with ubiquitous tropical sounds. The track is available as a free download and possesses a summer vibe that would surely be a smash with the right backing.
What Desire best represents about C-Two is his ability to effectively shape shift lyrically. Despite this, he never loses his momentum. It is a skill that comes naturally to him, and it never fails to impress.
C-Two has either shared a stage, a studio or a video with countless local artists and while often the leading light, there is a sense that he is continuing to learn and grow, preparing us for when his time will come to show the UK (and beyond) how remaining focused, current and above all super talented can reap dividends for those who remain true to their craft.
