Preview: Bold By Name, Bold By Nature ft. Immix Ensemble & Jennifer John
Immix Ensemble team up with Sense of Sound’s Jennifer John and Liverpool Biennial for the world premiere of Bold By Name, Bold By Nature. Alan Parry has the lowdown.
On 19th July, Liverpool-based new music ensemble Immix, in partnership with Liverpool Biennial, will be holding the world premiere of Bold By Name, Bold by Nature by Liverpool-based vocalist and songwriter Jennifer John, and Manchester-based guitarist and composer, Stuart McCallum, which promises to focus upon the “pulse of the city, and the heart of the people of Liverpool”.
You can expect to identify a whole host of recognisable themes, of the upmost importance to the people of Liverpool as matters such as our history as a port, and the subsequent connection to the slave trade are explored, alongside the story of Hillsborough and more personal contemplations such as the loss of Jennifer‘s father.
Immix is a Liverpool-based new music ensemble who focus on collaborations with innovative musical voices. They seek to champion the work of emerging talent whose work may otherwise get lost as the public at large feast upon work which is pigeon-holed for them. More than just a vehicle for new music, Immix aim to showcase a broad range of artistic performances.
More, then, about the artists commissioned by Immix; Jennifer John and Stuart McCallum.
London born John is superbly talented multi-instrumentalist and singer and student of music with a passion for classical music and jazz, who possesses a genuine intensity and spirit for her craft.
Her collaborator, the Manchester-based guitarist and composer McCallum has a reputation among those in the know for being one of the most creative and soulful guitarists of his generation.
The bold narrative and immersive soundtrack will take place within the stunning Civil Court, in the iconic, Grade I listed St. George’s Hall. Additional, the programme will feature premières of new works by Immix’s composer-in-residence, Andrew PM Hunt, and artistic director Daniel Thorne.
Bold By Name, Bold By Nature takes place on Thursday 19th July at St George’s Hall Civil Courtroom. Tickets are priced at £5, and are available by clicking here.
