Liverpool Sound City announce their first wave of acts for 2019, with a little more focus on British hip hop and R&B.

Liverpool Sound City have announced the day splits for this year’s festival.

Headlined by British hip hop sensation Loyle Carner and R&B singer-songwriter Mabel, Sound City 2019 appears to be making a concerted effort to broaden their appeal. And with Carner also heading up the Levi’s® Music Project as part of the festival, it is heartening to see them give a platform to some of Liverpool’s up and coming MC’s.

Championed as Britain’s new hope in hip hop, Loyle Carner will headline the Sunday night of the festival. He is a true voice of his generation; a street poet and wordsmith who captures the mood of his contemporaries, he electrifies audiences as much as he inspires them.

Meanwhile, Saturday’s headliner Mabel – daughter of the legendary Neneh Cherry – is a mesmeric child of the halcyon-age of 00s R&B, harnessing the energy of her idols from that hallowed era. She has also collaborated with everyone from Stormzy to Tate Modern.

Both of these artists are stunningly popular and relevant, with both currently enjoying chart success.

The festival weekend will start with the Sound City+ conference on Friday 4th May, featuring a full day of illuminating, engaging and inspiring keynote speeches, interviews, roundtable debates, workshops, business meetings and much more at Liverpool’s historic Cunard Building, with the likes of Andy McLuskey, Huw Stephens and Yousef & Rich McGinnis in conversation.
