L’Accord Bleu
(After Yves Klein)

The sky is as blue as I want it to be,
and, if I choose to believe grandmother,
then grandfather is up there,
dressed like a king of the wild frontier
with blue paint stains on his hip.
He flips pork loins on a grill
and listens to Lennon and McCartney,
throws bones for the dog to fetch,
still reading Henning Mankell’s novel,
lying in a hammock, counting planes,
thinking about how, when I was little,
I threw a Rolling Stones’ record out the window,
and how it decapitated a pigeon.
Then he’d be thinking of me
and when I’d come home.
