Peter Bruntnell and Rob Vincent
February 9 @ 7:00 pm
A masterclass in the art of the song this way comes from two of our finest songsmiths. Guardian Music contributor Keith Cameron, reviewing Bruntnell’s third LP in NME, memorably wrote that “his songs should be taught in schools”. Keith’s right. if there were any real justice in this world, Bruntnell wouldn’t be able to move in his Home Counties mansion for Ivor Novello awards and Grammys. He’d be followed by hosts of screaming adoring fans, and surrounded by yes men as he spent every winter touring the enormodomes of the world, and every summer headlining festivals. There is, of course, no justice in the world. We know that. We also know it matters not one jot. Bruntnell is a f=gifted and talented writer and performer. Liverpool, fond of a well turned tune, is a big fan, so it’s with great pride we bring him to Liverpool for a gig at 81 Renshaw.
Robert Vincent is an award-winning singer/songwriter from Liverpool – having received the inaugural Emerging Artist Awardfrom “Whispering” Bob Harris in 2016 and UK Americana Music Association’s UK Album of The Year in 2018. Seeing him play at the Bluebird Café’s Bluecoat event, the legendary broadcaster immediately invited Robert to record an Under The Apple Tree Session in his home studio and for his BBC Radio 2 “Country” show – describing him as “absolutely magnetic”. Raised on his father’s country music collection and the Pink Floyd albums of his brother, he is one of our hardest working songwriters, constantly touring, writing and always evolving. Recorded in his hometown and mixed in Nashville by Grammy Award-winning producer Ray Kennedy, his second full-length release I’ll Make The Most of My Sins saw him sited by The Guardian as one the UK’s top Americana artists. And in the words of MOJO magazine as they casually tossed 4 stars in his direction, “‘A young man filled with dreams, regret and shocking talent, giving his all – now is his time”
